RFID tags are typically placed on objects such as assets, inventory and vehicles or people in order to uniquely identify them or track their movement. RFID tags generally contain an RFID chip (integrated circuit or IC) and an antenna. The chip is used to store and process information as well as to modulate the radio frequency signal. The antenna is used to receive and transmit the signal.
We use two fundamentally different technologies, Active RFID and Passive RFID. Both use radio frequency to communicate between a tag and a reader but the method of powering the tags is quite different. Active RFID tags contain a battery to transmit signals autonomously (beacon) or in response to a message (response), whereas Passive RFID tags receive all of their power* from an external RFID reader, allowing the tag to “wake up” and transmit data.

RAMP’s range of passive RFID tags includes both High Frequency (HF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) passive RFID tags and labels. HF tags operate at a globally accepted frequency of 13.56MHz and work on the principle of inductive coupling. That means that energy is transferred from the reader to the tag through a shared magnetic field. The amount of transferred energy is proportional to the size of the antennas (transmitting and receiving) in addition to the tag’s ability to operate at the resonance frequency. Typically this limits tag read range to between a few cm and a maximum of 1m.
UHF RFID, which operates in the 860 - 960MHz range, allows for shorter antennas and far longer read distances – up to 35m. UHF tags communicate with the reader using backscatter technology - meaning that the tag communicates with the reader by modulating the received signal and radiating it back to the reader.
RAMP RFID Solutions offer a large number of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Gen 2 Passive RFID Tags & Labels in order to provide a broad range of solutions for our clients. Applications include asset tracking, inventory tracking, people tracking and vehicle tracking.
UHF Gen 2 RFID Tags & Labels operate on the global EPC Gen 2 standard at a global frequency range of between 860MHz and 960MHz or a regional subset such as 915MHz for USA, Australia and most of Asia or 868MHz for Europe, NZ and parts of Asia.
UHF Gen 2 tags have a read range of between 1cm and more than 35m – depending on the specific tag and the environment in which it is being read.

Our BAP labels and encapsulated tags contain an integrated, thin and flexible battery which provides the energy to wake up the chip and provide the backscatter signal to the reader and resulting in performance levels that cannot be attained by usual passive RFID.
Common application areas included asset tracking of returnable instruments, work in progress tracking and people tracking.

RAMP RFID Solutions provide a wide range of High Frequency (HF) RFID Tags & Labels to fulfill our customer needs for a number of applications including asset tracking, item identification, cashless payment and loyalty. HF RFID Tags & Labels operate at 13.56MHz and is a license free worldwide RFID standard with short read range, usually only a few cm’s up to a maximum of 1 meter.
